Probably heading up another dead end, but is there any info on the Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War please?
I have already checked Wikipedia and Googled it, plus checked EBay for books.
Thanks for any helpful suggestions.
It was known as NID 17 and one of the key members was Ian Femming of James Bond fame. You will find quite a bit about its work in a biography of Ian Flemming. It is worth enquiring of the Naval history associations and web sites as well at the PRO . You do not make it clear what you are looking for but the A2A site might point you towards the records you want. I suspect a lot is still classified and it is only just begining to be selectively released for public scutiny
Sorry Somerstown this dosn't really help you but interesting i think.
I live two miles from Fleming's final resting place.Sevenhampton is literally a fifteen min walk for me and i have seen his grave many times.....it is thought his war efforts were indeed a lot more important than many knew about.
Thanks Lee, that was interesting.
I think if I live till I am about 110 all the papers I want to see will probably be on line (or whatever system is in use then). Maybe if I go to sleep in the freezer they could thaw me out in the future and I would be world famous as a preserved old codger as well as getting the family info I want? :2fun:>
Have you noticed the new book just published on the history of the secret service and MI 16 by Jeffrey. It is advertised on the National Archives web site with £10 off the rrp. seems to cover the period until 1949 so should cover the period of time you are interested in. Seems to have good reviews but i have not read it yet.
