Hi All,
Just got rid of an old van that has not run for 3 years, no MOT and it was a rust bucket. Engine runs fine. A fella arrived, chucked some petrol down the carbouretter and it started first time. And he just drove it off, with an escort of two other vehicles (front and back).
He did test the brakes several times, i'll give him some credit.
Anyway my new additions are 4 chickens which I exchanged for the old van.
Not sure what make and model of Hens yet, but the plan is to breed them and eat/sell the eggs that are unfertilised.

So from searching for the dead, I'm now looking forward to new lives. And don't start calling me 'Chicken George'

Steve.:)

Hope you have a male chicken. Are you going to have your own chicken fast food? Are you going to have a wake up service for your neighbors?>:D have fun
Charles

Hi Charles,
No cockerel. He will be brought in to 'stud' every so often. I like my sleep as much as the next man. The last thing I want is some loudmouth cockerel blasting out at 4am.
Not planning to eat them, just breed and sell them on. Thoroughbred pedigree chickens are too expensive to eat.
Just think of them as big Canaries with fringe benefits.

Hi Steve
Good luck in your latest venture and please make sure that your hens are safe from Mr Reynard. It's heartbreaking to find the remains of a savage attack by the red devil, he dosen't just take one for his dinner but kills everything he can. :'( Anyway I hope you enjoy many years of happy hen farming. May be a good idea to grow some rhubarb to supplement your egg rich diet. Best wishes Carol :)
p.s.don't let the hens eat the rhubarb leaves - poison - nasty !!!

Hi Steve, wonderful news - your hens have done you proud. It must be great to have the swallows around. We have been privileged to have swallows nesting for years but now we have been invaded by a family of magpies which have seen off all the other birds including our beloved swallows. Crow pie anyone!!! Carol>:D

Hi Carol,
Eggs are coming more frequently now they've settled in.
The magpies here are kept at bay by my dogs. The Swallows nest is not accessible to those maggies at all.
The chickens are quite well protected as well. Their feed area is under the barn roof, so a very awkward flight path for the big birds.
But nothing is 100% invader proof.

Hi Steve, I don't know if I would appreciate having a chicken named after me :( A song though :D
Carol
What about this one Carol.

Oh Carol
Neil Sedaka
(Neil Sedaka/Howard Greenfield)

Oh! Carol, I am but a fool,
Darling I love you tho' you treat me cruel,
You hurt me and you made me cry
But if you leave me I will surely die.

Darling there will never be another
Cause I love you so,
don't ever leave me,
Say you'll never go
I will always want you for my sweetheart
No matter what you do
Oh! Carol, I'm so in love with you.

Steve.:)

I  HATE  that song !!! Hearing it 40 plus years ago made me squirm and just to read those awful lyrics now makes me feel the same yuck thanks pal! I meant Christmas songs, the ones about sweet babies, lambs, donkeys, fat fellas in red suits and white beards climbing down chimneys, all that stuff. Got myself so up tight I forgot my password and have only just got back on line. I know I should write down all these things and keep them somewhere safe and I did but they're so safe I can't find them
Thanks anyway I'm sure you meant well Carol:)
