My ancestor Sarah Adcock (who wed John britton in 1803 in Finchingfield) was baptised in June 1782 in Great Bardfield, Essex, daughter of John Adcock and Elizabeth Pawsey. She was their eldest child. John and Eliz Adcock appeared to keep on having children until 1807 in Finchingfield, Essex. Now, Elizabeth seems to have died in 1826 aged 65 (or thereabouts).

Elizabeth and John Adcock named one of their sons David Adcock in 1788. Now a David Pawsey wed a Thomasin Argent in 1765 (banns read) in Tilbury Juxta Clare, just a couple of miles or so from Finchingfield/Gt Bardfield. David was a widower and Thomasin a widow. Not yet confirmd but David Pawsey may have been Elizabeth's stepdad and she took his name when her mum remarried.

I did find a Elizabeth Argent baptised in 1754 in Stoke By Clare, Suffolk, daughter of William Argent and Thomasin. William Argent wed Thomasin Carter in 1751 in Suffolk.

Could well be that Elizabeth was born an Argent, her dad William died, mum Thomasin remarried and Eliz took her stepdad's name. However, this means Elizabeth was about 52 in 1807 when she had her last child. And there seems to be a gap between John and Eliz Adcock having children inbetween 1794 and 1799. Unless the Elizabeth born in 1754 died, and William and Thomasin had another daughter called Elizabeth in about 1759-1761ish, then William died and Thomasin remarried.
