Hi Guys, sorry but I am another Aussie and am about to do the what seems to be the impoooosible ...... try to trace my family name, Whiffen, I see that there a lot of sites offering to do this but for a fee, I don't mind if I have to pay but can someone tell me which one should I use, I would like to search for a marriage certificate. probable around Kent middle to late 1800 I guess.
Hope I am the right forum for this, if not which one should I be in.

Phil

Wow thanks Julie found what I wanted first hit using free bmd
I have now applied for a marriage Cert.....
Edward Whiffen was married ( 1889 )at 21 years old to Nellie Hawtin, if I wanted his birth cert and hers
would make him born 1868 and she 1867 would that be available and to go back from there, would records be available.? And would the best way just to keep getting the cert's and keep going back from there.?

Once again thankyou for your time, very much appreciated

Philip,

Certificates were issued from 1837, prior to that it would be parish records.

Use the bmd if you want to purchase certificates and there is also the census which can help in identifying other family members as well ,1881 census free to view and also the 1901 census index is free to view but the census image is pay per view which you can purchase credits for.See link.

Dont hesitate to put your posts in for census look ups.

Julie
