Ok everyone. Hands up if you look at the names of new members who they are researching.
Do you do this before anything else, just in case they are the same as yours.

As for me, I'm guilty as charged. But I'm still waiting for that 'someone'.

Hi

Yes I am always interested in who a new member is researching in case they are looking for the same names as me.

However, one I found that was researching Parkers that I left a post for appears not to have come back!

Thanks

Ed

Actually, it works both ways. By the time people sign onto this site, they must have some minor idea of research at least.
Nothing to stop them scanning the members already here and checking THEIR research names. :)

Or am I missing something?

Hi Dave,

When I see a new member join, the research names are the first thing I look at before I welcome them.
I just wondered if I was the only one who does this. It's not a question of experience. Just a quirk I have.

gotta admit, its a bit of a genealogists dream to find someone who has researched all the missing bits of my tree, and climbed over those brickwalls, so I check whenever I can just in case. Would be nice to help someone else out too.

My patern on checking fhuk, 1st see if you have put up some new sites, 2nd see if anyone as asked about any of the names I am interested in, 3rd check new ones and see if they may have any names on my list, then read what they say about themselves.

I have found family members on other sites but not this one. I always look at who people are researching especially those in the lake district as I have extensive records of family members there on my side and am gaining more records day by day on my husbands side so Its not just to help me but see if I can fill in a space for them. Yesterday I looked up the photo section on Ancestry and found a photo of my husbands great grandmother. A photo he hadn't seen before. So keep looking you never know your luck.

That happened to me as regards photo's. I had pictures of my gran and aunt together, and found a distant cousin who had other pictures taken at the same time. So now we each have the complete set.
Wonderful.
Still keep looking for names though.
