Hi

I'm James and I have been researching my family history for over 15 years, it started out as a small school project and has developed well.

I have recorded over 550 individuals and if my research is correct managed to record as far back as 1540s whist is my 12th great grand parents.

I have one brick wall that is bugging me though and involves my maternal grandfather I can't research his line due to being unsure on names. What I know is he was brought up by his grandmother but unsure which grandmother.

My gran is reluctant to talk about it as even now think it's a sensitive subject, my mum knows fragmented bits but it's not accurate.

Other issue is it's Scotland

Hi! I'm Bev from Australia. About two years ago I discovered that my mother descended from a family on St Helena in the South Atlantic. Her 3 x great grandfather was Joab Marling a British soldier in the 66th Regiment who was sent to the island as part of the large contingent guarding Napoleon who was exiled there. Joab met a local girl, Ruth Alesworth, whom he married in 1818. They had several children and returned to his home in Gloucestershire around 1831. Ruth's family can be traced back to the late 1600s on St. Helena and the family was established by the marriage of an island girl, Bridget Coales and a French Hugenot refugee who sought refuge there and they married in 1891. For many years he was on the island's Council and for a short while was Acting Governor. I have gathered a lot of information but would love to hear from any descendants of those mentioned as well as other familes who intermarried with them on the island - French, Desfountain, Alesworth, Clough.

Hi I'm DavidF from Australia
I have been doing it for 40 years and have an extensive family tree of my own and others. I help a lot of other people do their family tree.
I have been doing a one name study on Dewhurst/Dewhirst for many years and have an extensive collection, particularly for Australia and New Zealand, but am not limited to that. I'm happy to help anyone. Thank you

That's great David(y)

As you realise, this genealogy is all about researching names of family and using various official records to find that line relatives in various countries, depending on access to those records!

We are always very happy to receive offers of help to our members, wherever they are. Great

Thanks again(y)(y)
