Newis and Marsh in Somerset

New to your website.
A thread commenced 12 Dec.,2012, initiated by DaveHam9, titled "Newis and Marsh in Somerset" relating to inquiries and replies for Charles Newis and Sarah Ann Marsh. Information relates to Sarah - daughter of Richard and Sarah, census inquiries for 1841 and 1851; & death of Charles at Prospect, N.S.W., in 1882.
Charles & Sarah are my g/g/gnd parents. I have been researching the Newis and Pond families for many years, and despite extensive searching of census and other records, I remain unable to determine Sarah Ann Marsh's parents. I have two possible Sarah Marsh birth dates, in Somerset, in 1835 & 1837. And, I have two possible fathers - Richard Marsh, which is supported by the Sarah Hay death record, that shows Richard as her father; and James, that is supported by an 1841 census record, immigration record, & Sarah's second marriage. To complicate this, I have found multiple James Marsh census records, with daughters named Sarah.
Marriage/s for Charles Newis have proved to be a difficult task. Perhaps there was more than one Charles Newis.
* 1855 - Ann Welch to Charles Newis (father,Robert)
* 1856 - Sarah Ann Marsh to Charles Newis
* 1857 - Sarah Ann Marshall to Charles Newis
I have determined that Charles' father was Robert Newis; Charles' mother was Mary. But I have two possible "Marys"; was she Mary Hopkins, or was she Mary Best?
I have extensive information on Charles Newis and Robert Newis, with associated census records.
Similarly, I have extensive information on both James Marsh & Richard Marsh, both with similar family member names, & both in Somerset.
Other than a possibility that Robert Newis' father was Thomas (1761), and his mother Joan Scott (1766), I have no other information about the family prior to Robert.
Further recorded research can be provided if necessary, as I have endeavoured to abbreviate this inquiry.
Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks Robert

I remain unable to determine Sarah Ann Marsh's parents.
This is not easy to follow.

Deaths.
NEWIS.-April 9, at his late residence, Prospect, Charles Newis, aged 47, youngest son of the late Robert Newis, native of Shepton Beachamp, Somersetshire ...

Where is the Marsh family in 1851 ? I've found Sarah Ann 15 as a servant to a Taylor family. Sarah is alive and living in Somerset in 1857.

Not this

So Sarah should be in 1851 as a widow ?? And 1861 as there seems to be no death 1857 - 1861 that fits. Living at Hinton ? Which one of 3x Hinton in Somerset. ??

What is next?

Death 7453/1882 NEWIS CHARLES - ROBERT MARY - PARRAMATTA * 9 Apr

https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-search.aspx

Transcriptions have all the information and are cheaper. There is the possibility of transcription errors though.

A death certificate may contain names of parents. So it may or may not have Mary's maiden name. The NSW index only includes the given names when known. Qld. and Vic. also give maiden name when known.

Read all posts; thank you for your interest and expertise.
Information contained in #2 to #7 reflects my inquiries.
#8 re Noah, and #9 to #12, particularly Sarah's second marriage to Robert Ralph, was not known to me; this information provides a piece of missing information, and is most persuasive, in determining Sarah's parentage, which I now believe is almost certainly James Marsh and not Richard Marsh. The marriage to Robert Ralph, fits into the dates, and this is supported by the names of their children, contained in the census records.
Still a couple of other unknowns for me to find. If you find anything further, please let me know. Thanks again. Robert
