Where is the Marsh family in 1851 ? I've found Sarah Ann 15 as a servant to a Taylor family. Sarah is alive and living in Somerset in 1857.
Sarah's mother Sarah Marsh.

South Petherton Somerset - James & Sarah Father dead. Mother at Hinton ?
Thanks,

Dave

Thank you for the above details.
I have found that Hinton would be "Hinton St.George" - "a village in South Somerset, situated 3 miles outside Crewkerne, 10 miles south west of Yeovil".
The 1861 census details for John Pond are correct; the married surname of his daughter is actually Best.
Thanks again for the information.

Thanks Robert.

I had not gone as far as looking for the marriage. Now I know it should be Best.

I still can't find James & Sarah Marsh in 1851 or Sarah in 1861.

Dave:
Thanks for your info.
You say that you found Sarah Ann living with the Taylor family, as a servant, in Somerset . . . is that in 1851? I cannot locate that entry.
Sarah Ann (1838) immigrated to Australia in 1857 . .
James Marsh was deceased in 1843, and Sarah (formerly Marks) remarried, and in 1861 was Sarah Ralph.

Thanks for the info.
Found Sarah Ann in 1851, with the significant variation in the spelling of the surname.
I had previously located Robert Nowiss (Newis); this difference in spelling appears to be an original record of the spelling rather than a a deciphering or interpretation of the name by transcribers. Thanks again Dave.
