I may have to buy a sub for these as I found my ancestor Gertrude Wallaker of Prittlewell listed in an 1886 newspaper report.

And a William Taylor of Canewdon assaulted Robert Smith in 1874. On the 1871 census Smith was aged 40. I need to find if it was William Snr or William Jnr. I have to pay to get the full newspaper details. William Jnr is my ancestors brother both sons of Wm Snr.

Hello Benny,
You can buy credits to view the papers instead of a subscription. There are various alternatives for payment. Interesting to see what one's ancestors were doing. Makes them characters rather than just names.

As a xmas pressy to me, I have subscribed again to FMP as they kindly gave me a 20% discount.
I can now peruse their newspapers but I dont know what system they use to search them as I spent 30 minutes rading a page from 1878 for Edwin Murray but I never found it!! I even went back a page and forward a page!!
Nice though it is to read about rellies the actual facts are a bit on the thin side .... I suppose we should be greatful for small mercys!

The National Newspaper Archives give you free search for a certain number of points which in my case amounted to 3 news articles I could download for free. Then you can pay in a variety of ways for news articles.

You can just look and see headlines, which actually can be helpful especially if you are looking for adverts of a relatives business. However it does also get you itching to pay to see more. Depends on how much detail you want. I am writing a history of our family so am looking for even the small info.

Anc.. are offering me 3 months free if I go back. They do have some papers but frankly the Newpaper Archives seem to have much more local interest stories.

Plus there are some papers you can look at free. I have found bankruptcy proceedings freely available. I am hoping soon to subscribe to the Archive as there is a wealth of stories I have seen headlines for both for my local history research and my family history but I have to wait till the Christmas bills are paid. I am really looking forward to a years access.
