Hi Barbara
The first Winties I could find were in a very little hamlet called Strines in Saddleworth, right on the border of Lancashire. There was only three weaver's cottages there.
Their children moved to Dobcross and Diggle, then to Paddock and Zetland Street, Huddersfield during the industrial revolution. They continued to weave by handloom at least until the 1861 census.
May I ask where are your family from?
I have come to love the West Riding since researching my ancestors.
Should we be chatting on a different Forum. I don't like to get in trouble for breaking rules. Yes I am a scardie cat.
Cheers
Karen
