Nicolson of Edinburgh

Alexander Nicolson born c 1794 was a merchant of Edinburgh in the 1820's, died in 1827/28 aged in his 30's, leaving a widow, Mary and 2 chldren . Is it possible to find what he died of .He had a brother named Daniel, a wine merchant who immigrated to Australia in 1840.It is possible that the father of these men was James Nicolson. Is it possible to find their mothers name and if there were other siblings please.

Hi, not finding an Alexander Nicolson dying about that time in the deaths on Scotlandspeople. Where did you find the info about his death and what part of Edinburgh was he a merchant in? Do you have any other information that might help?

Not sure if this is any help, also a James at 9 Rose St. [Tailor]..

I should add surname = Nicholson..

This may not be the same Alexander, different occupation/address..

Daniel stil in Broughton St.

In 1827-8 there is the same Alexander as in 1825-6 [also there is the farming implement manufacturer in 1827-8]. No sign of Alexander the grocer after that.

Of course still conjecture until we have more.

Thank you to everybody for your help.
In British newspaper website I found a notice of the creditors of Alexander Nicholson ,late grocer of Union Street, mentioning that a scheme of division would lay at his house at no.17West Nicholson Street , dated oct.2nd 1828
I never found a death notice, and I would be quite interested to know how he died.

Daniel Nicholson and wife Janet and family immigrated to Adelaide South Australia in 1840. He opened a grocer and wine merchant shop. He died in 4 th August 1843 and janet died 1846 and both were buried in West Terrace cemetery , Adelaide.

NICHOLSON Daniel, died 1843-08-01 aged 57 at Broughton Cottage, Ade; relative/informant James (S); buried Adelaide West Terrace Cemetery"

Alexander was still alive in 1825 A mention of him in the Scotsman. Think they mean 1825 not 1285

Thank you to all of you wonderful people for the information that you have sent to me, especially the newspaper articles. it is great to find when Alexander died, it is sad that he was so young. Would he have died in St.Cuthberts Parish , I don't suppose it would be possible to know what cemetery he would have been buried in.
