no birth record

I have found Robert Donaldson and wife Margaret on the 1851 and 1861 census living in Bathgate West Lothian (Robert died 1865). The children are listed as Mary c1836 James c1838, Margaret 1842, Archibald 1845, Jessie/Janet 1851. I have managed to find the births on the IGI for the last 3 children, but no trace of the eldest 2. The census says they were all born in Bathgate, I have even been on Scots Origins and tried to find them elsewhere, but no luck. I also found the marriage for parents in Bathgate 1835 Can anyone help, or at least tell me why the children are not listed on the IGI records.

I havent used it at all cos I havent had any need to use it, but I know others that have used it and have had alot of success with it.

Perhaps the elder two had different names?

did you find them on the 1841 cens?

and it was the younger ones that you found the bapts for?

ok I have found them in 1841 in the census.

still in Bathgate but that doesnt suprise me as thats where they married.

hmmn it does seem abit odd, Mary 'could' be a pet name. She might be a Margaret?

I have found Janets bapt (on hugh wallis's site) Margarets Maiden name was Heugh?

Yes Margaret (mother) was called Heugh. I have Janet, Archibald, Margaret births, but not Mary or James. On IGI I cant find any more children belonging to Robert Donaldson and Margaret Heugh ? Its really weird.

I wish I was more familiar with SP and scottish searching in general, but i'm not, I did wonder if the parish records would assist you further, but am not sure.

LDS is a weird creature, if you use Hugh wallis's site that has all extracted entries on it, from the LDS, whereas if you use Familysearch it can be either submitted, extracted or figment of the imagination!!
