Informant was her son who she lived with at the time of her death at 10 Springfield Avenue Potts Point Sydney Aust.on the 3rd February 1945 Does anyone have information about this woman & her family at the time they spent in N.Z.How many years did she spend in N.Z.? She was married in Walgett in 1895 to Alfred John Clarence Lloyd aged 20 years
Children Norah 1896 John 1898 Norman 1901 Alfred 1901 Lucy M 1905 Norman 1906 Chrismon:)
Hi Chrismon
Norah Lloyd was my husbands great aunt.
Her brother Richard Kenna was my husbands grandfather.
The Kenna & Clear families were friends and neighbors in Kilkenny Ireland.
They came to Australia within a year of each other, settling in northern Victoria at a place called Indigo Creek near Chiltern mining for gold.
William Clear is Norah LLoyd's nee Kenna grandfather born in Kilkneny Ireland 1823, her grandmother was Hanoria Clear nee Farrell they were married in Kilkenny Ireland in 1845. William was a farmer he died in Barnawartha near Chiltern, northern Victoria in 1881.
William & Hanoria children were:
Hanoria (Nora) (Norah Lloyd's mother) born 1845 in Kilkenny Ireland
Nora was 6 when they came out to Australia, she died in Walgett NSW in 1929
Ann was born in 1849 she was 4 when they came out to Australia
John was only 1 when they came out to Australia he died in Granville,NSW in 1934.
Micheal was born 1858 and died in 1912 in Walgett, NSW.
The Clear family arrived in Australia January 5, 1853 on the ship "Time and Truth" ex Plymouth to Geelong Victoria. Assisted Passenger Records on their own account.
William and Hanoria settled in Haines near Chiltern.
Hanoria married Richard Kenna who was born in 1832 in Kilkenny Ireland, they were married at the catholic school in Chiltern 16 November 1862.
Richard was a farmer and a gold miner.
Richard died in Walgett 22 August 1892 he was 59.
Hanoria died 12 August 1929, she was 83.
Richard and Hanoria went to New Zealand from what we believe to gold mine.
Whilst there they had the following children;
Catherine born 1863 in Dunedin she was a grazier as well and died 12 November 1900 in Tamworth NSW
Richard (my husbands' grandfather) born 1864 Dunstone Creek he was a grazier, hotelier and in later years was a grocer. He died in 19 July 1951 at Mallanganee near Casino NSW
Martin born 1865 on the South Islands gold fields he was a grazier in the Walgett area and died in 1942 in Randwick in Sydney
Norah (your grandmother) was born 1867 on the South Islands gold fields in 1867. She married in 1895 in Walgett Alfred J Llyod he was born 1870
William was born 1868 again on the gold fields on the South Island, he was also a grazier and managed properties with his mother and sister Johanna around the Walgett area he died in 1944 in Sydney.
The following children were born in Australia:
Johanna was born in 1876 in Albury NSW like her brothers she was a grazier and managed properties in the Walgett area "Ladysmith" 1905-1924 and Pretty Plains 1937- 1943 at Pilliga near Walgett.
Bridget was born 1877 in Albury she married Thomas Leahey in 1907 at Narrabri NSW she had two sons.
Lucy Anne was born 1883 in Albury she married in 1912 John Meninan in Walgett, they had a daughter.
Margaret Ellen was born 15 May 1887 in Brocklesby near Albury she married Ernest T J Hall in 1913 in Walgett they had a son.
Micheal (Margarets' twin) was born the same day he married Margaret O'Mullane in 1911 at Narrabri. He had two sons. Michael died in 1944 Waverley in Sydney.
It is belived that their was 14 children in total but only 10 have been identified it is belived that the others could have died in the harsh conditions in the southern New Zealand alps.
I have lots more information on the Kenna family if you are interested.
Warm regards,
Yvonne Kenna
