Hi to all. Can anybody tell me if they have heard of the name Norvill either as a surname or forename? It was my Grandad`s middle name, I assume he was named after someone, it wasn`t his Mother`s maiden name, so have you heard of it?

Hi D-G,

Thats a new one to me.
I think sometimes family names are passed down through the genereations as a christian name, albeit a middle name.

Have you tried 'googling' Norvill.

Steve.:)

Hi,
I don't know if this will help or not. I could never work out why my gt grandfather John Boulton's full name was John Henry Lawley Boulton until I discovered that his mother's sister Jane married a Henry Lawley and I guess that they were possibly his Godparents, hence the names. So your Norvill could have been for another family member or even family friend.

It` amazing how one thing leads to another. I am still looking for the `Norvill` link and was having another look at the census returns when I noticed that when my GG Grandad was born there was a family called Errington living in the same street and lo and behold, my GG Grandad was called Edward Errington Blackbird. Thanks to you all for the tip!
