Hi
You will have seen Cyril's father was named William. I am having trouble finding him as I don't have anything definite. He should be married to a lady named Daniel as that was Cyril's mother's maiden name. Cyril had a brother names Sydney born mar qtr 1916 but died Dec qtr 1916.
Cyril is on BMD as being born 1912, but on his mge cert he gave his age as 26, which gave a birth date of 1909.
I cannot trace any of these on the 1911 census.

There is a death for a William Huntington in Leeds in 1932, giving a birth date of 1869
Can you give any more info about William or his parents and siblings

Birthdates are often inaccurate particularily if the man is younger than his wife he may make himself older. Or he may have lied earlier to an employer to get himself employed and the lie continues.

Thank you so much for the help. I'm having trouble understanding where the name Amari fits in, do you know what this means. There are the same family, but why the name change? You have been most helpful. O0
Do the recoreds go further back and show who is the mother and farther of Ann Smart, and any history about them?

Hi
The name Amari is what the person who transcribed the records has read the name as, It is a poor image, and if you look at the record without hindsight you can see why. However because I know the name should be Smart, I can read that this is what it says. So the right name is Smart.

Also you have to remember that many people could not read or write so names were recorded as they sounded. If a person had an accent it explains why there are so many variations.

I'll have a look for John and Ann's parents...

This info taken from a tree posted on a web site. (You will notice that on the 1881 census John has a 2nd name Halam) I cannot confirm any of this info is correct

1841 England Census

Registration district: Gloucester
Sub-registration district: St Nicholas

Piece: 379 Book: 9 Folio: 39 Page Number: 26

John Smart 30 Waterman (someone who makes his living on boats)
Mary Smart 30
Elam Smart 11 (age given as 11 but John Elam was born about 1837. Is this really John Halam?)
Moses 3
Abitha Smart 1

marriage - John Elam Smart to Ann Hathoway, 8th Nov 1857, Tipton, Dudley, Staffs ref 6c 157

marriage - John Smart born 1807 Stroud/ d 1874 to Mary Holder born 1814 Wooton under edge/ d 1888 - married 3rd Nov 1836 Saul, Gloucester
dave

death John H Smart 1911 aged 75, giving a birth date of 1836

edit
One of John Halam's children, John b 1868, had a daughter called Lily Hathoway Smart. (named after her G.mother?)

Thanks for the trouble you've gone to to help me. I need to get it all on paper and get births and deth's etc down to see where I'm at. It's all very interesting finding one's history. Was there any indication of Ann Hathoway's birth and parentage on the records you found? Thanks dave.
