Nottinghamshire......

Location
Nottingham
From
England

Hi folks, :D
just like to make it known I have quite a lot of info on Nottinghamshire.
ie; Census info and parish records, so if any one has any enquiries about Nott`s ,give us a shout ,I just might have the info you`re looking for.

Ps; if you pick up on this one " Dave the administrator " from Nottingham , have you got all the info you need on the Woolley`s of Clifton, and did you know of the 200yr old " Woolley diaries ".I dont know who has the original ,but I Have seen the transcripted version .
I am myself a Woolley ( Clifton village ) descendant .:)

Budgie,;)

Hi,
I have a few Wooleys in my tree but they are in Lincolnshire. I'm interested in the Goodacres from Nottingham and Granby. I'm looking in particular for the parents of Richard Goodacre born Granby 1808. Possibly John and Frances. Marriage would be about 1801.

Hi Budgie Rustler - great handle by the way! :)

Great to hear from another Woolley and it would be great to find more information on them.
Give us a PM (private Message) to discuss further Budgie.

All the best,
Dave

HI Budgie,

Could you please do a look up for me. I am trying to find the parents of William Ward 1789 married to Mary Sudbury of Egmanton, Notts. The census returns ( by the time they were introduced he was living in Sudbrook nr. Grantham ) list him as being born in Caunton. He had a brother Samuel who moved to Wilts.I can't find their baptisms. There were Wards in Egmanton and I have wondered if his mother went to a relative in Caunton for the birth.I can trace the Sudburys back a long way, but William's origins are eluding me, other than the gooseberry bush!

Many Thanks,

Ronny.

Re: Clifton Woolleys....

Budgie Rustler...the Woolley Diaries are in the Nottingham Archives but I'm interested in where you saw the transcripted version. My husband's gr gr gr gr grandfather was Joseph Woolley, then through Joseph Woolley born 1804, then Elizabeth Woolley born 1848, then Ada Woolley born 1869. Both Elizabeth and Ada married Hardys. Would love to hear from you!

Hi Deanna,:)
Blimey, Its been over 2 or 3yrs since I have been on this site.
I lost nearly all my data a couple years back, when my computer decided to implode and self destruct.lol.
I had to get a new one and I am back up to-date and keep backup discs now.(lesson learnt):'(

With reference to Joseph Woolley 1804...
I am a descended via Joseph`s brother, William Woolley 1813.
William 1813 being my gr, gr, Grandfather.

The "Woolley Diaries",(the transcribd one that I read) were on the public reference shelves at the Nottingham Archives.
Some one had took the time to fully type up the Diary into A4 bookform on one page was a photostat copy of the original Diary and on the facing page was the transcribed clear typed transcription.
This was over 12yrs ago so I dont whether the Bookllet is still there on the shelf.

I have been having a look at my Woolley Data on my FTM program, and I have the following information which seems to differ from yours.... I have...

Elizabeth Woolley 1848 with 2 illegitimate children...(Eizabeth died 1890)
William Woolley 1864, bn Clifton.
Ada Woolley 1869, bn Clifton.

Also Elizabeth`s sister...

Harriet Woolley, bn 1840 also with 2 illegitimate children...
George Henry Woolley 1859 bn Clifton.
Arthur Woolley 1865 bn Clifton.
... Harriet married Joseph Hardy, and Joseph`s son from a previous marriage married Ada Woolley in 1891 (Ada being Harriet`s Neice)

If you need any further info you can e-mail me at...

***email address removed to protect privacy*** Please use the PM(Private Message) facility to pass on personal information.

Best wishes to you and yours,

Hi Budgie Rustler,
Firstly, thanks for the offer of help in this location.

Secondly, I have two entries I would like to confirm, if possible:

02 MAR 1730 Phillip ALVEY = Elizabeth WOOLEY @ TROWEL
29 DEC 1834 John ALLVEY = Ann WOOLEY LONG WHATTON LEI

I am assuming the WOOLEY vs WOOLLEY is a spelling variant
as is ALVEY vs ALLVEY.

Thanks again.
Jeff

Good morning to you Jeff, it a real scorcher here in Nottingham (UK):)

Sorry, but it doesn`t look as if I can be of any help to you :(

I did have a search round and came up with the following...

From my Notts marriage disc ...
ALLVEY,Phillip,HOOLEY,Elizabeth,,,,Trowell,02/03/1731
(It may well be that Hooley is the correct spelling, as there were several Hooley`s living in Trowell around that period and it was only a very small place.

From IGI ...
Marriage: JOHN ALLVEY + ANN WOOLLEY
29 DEC 1834 Long Whatton, Leicester, England

(Are these your John and Ann in Long Whatton 1851 and 61)
Alvey John 1811, bn Arnold .
Alvey Ann 1813, bn L Whatton .

Best wishes to you and yours,:)
Alan.

Re: Nottinghamshire......Woolleys

Hi Budgie....thanks for replying. You're the first Woolley connection I've ever come across so I have lots of questions.
I've known about the Diaries for a few years from a visit to Clifton Library but I couldn't locate them. My husband and I are coming to UK this next month and we will go to Nottingham Archives to see them.
I would love to hear your side of the family's take on all the illegitimate. children and the Clifton family as there is a story that passed down through the Hardys. My husband's mother was a Hardy, her grandmother being Ada Elizabeth Hardy.
Can you go back for me? Joseph Woolley (born 1804), says he was born in Clifton one time and then subsequently in Sutton Bonnington. Where was he born? Is Joseph's wife Sarah Armson? Where and when were they married?
Were his parents Joseph Woolley born +-1767 and Mary Aram. If so I have a marriage for them 9th Dec. 1841 Clifton.
I'm trying to confirm what I think I know...not so easy from here. Thanks again.

Many Thanks Alan, :)

It's very, very hot here today in Florida (as always )

The HOOLEY marriage is correct I believe (I had a note to the effect that WOOLEY could be an error) so your confirmation is well received.

Re the Long Whatton connection (1811 - 13): at that time my personal blood line were residing in WOODBOROUGH (my 3 and 4 Great Grandfathers).

When I lived in England I was doing a "one name study" study of the Alvey name (I am too far away now to conduct any direct research - so have to rely on on-line searches and assistance from kind folks such as yourself). I strongly believe that all Alveys are in fact related.
With some considerable help from other Alveys this is proceeding very well so far.
My own line has connected with others which puts the family, (in the late 1500's), in the ARNOLD LOWDHAM and WOODBOROUGH area and I am currently struggling with trying to find confirmation on Richard ALVEY = Agnes SAMPSON a second marrage I believe and Richard's first marriage about 1545 and the respective children, one of whom was (I believe) Ellis ALVEY bapt. circa 1566. (He would be my 9th Great Grandfather).

Anyway, many thanks again for your help, and enjoy the sun (while it lasts :2fun:)
Jeff

Hi Budgie...Wow!
I hoped for a little help and you overwhelmed me. Thank you so much. I had gotten back to Joseph and Mary(Aram)Woolley but not to Joseph and Ann(Smith)Woolley. You got me hunting in my British Road Map book for 'Bunny' Notts.!!! I also hadn't done much research on the siblings.
Did you know that Elizabeth Woolley did marry 8th Apr. 1885...a William Henson?
They're both in the 1901 census in Clifton. I know that she didn't die in 1890 but I'm not sure when.
Harriett Woolley married Joseph Hardy(a second marriage for him) and he died 28 Apr. 1907 at Shipley but his death is listed under his birth registered name of
Joseph Hand. His mother was Ann Hand and she hadn't yet married John Hardy at the time.
I find it interesting that the Woolley family was able to stay in Clifton for so many generations. Clifton was a closed village and the Clifton family never let the population rise above 400 so children had to seek work elsewhere as they matured. However, they were taken back into the village again and again. They must have been responsible tenants and workers.
There are no Woolley gravestones in the cemetery but there are quite a few Woolleys buried there. I think it would be lovely to be rolling in money and put one there in memory of all the Woolleys but..... first of all we're not rolling and secondly, when I first got into genealogy my husband told me he wasn't about to put in gravestones and repair them for his and my ancestors all over the UK!!!!
Thanks again for your help...it's much appreciated.

Hi Deanne,:)
thank you for the info on Elizabeth Woolley and William Henson, I have rechecked and found they did indeed marry Apr 8th 1885 St Saviours Nottingham.
As Elizabeth doesn't appear on the 1911 census, I think this may be her death registration...
Deaths Sep qtr 1906. Henson Elizabeth 59 Nottingham 7b 244
Also found, Joseph Hardy.
Deaths Jun qtr 1907. HARDY Joseph Hand 61 Basford 7b 98
Fascinating stuff this Family History Hobby is it not? always something new coming to light.

Been trying to tie up loose ends on my tree and close it down because its getting too large and complicated. and I can only do my maternal side at the moment.
I said when I reached a total of 2,000 in tree I would stop there and recheck every single person and print everything off into book form. that was 6 months ago and I am still doing it. And whilst doing the rechecking I have managed to find and add another 68 new family members ...
It seems never ending. :)
Thanks again Deanne, Best wishes to you and yours.
Alan.
Ps; I presume that you know that the Admin of this site has the same strong Woolley and Hardy connection?

Hi Deanne,:)
Ps; I presume that you know that the Admin of this site has the same strong Woolley and Hardy connection?
Hi guys,
I too may have a HARDY connection:
29 DEC 1737 Henry ALVEY = Mary HARDY of NEWARK @ WINKBURN
children:
06 JUL 1739 Mary bapt. WINKBURN
17 JUL 1741 Alice bapt. WINKBURN
Henry I believe died/buried 02 OCT 1742 age 27 @ WINKBURN
which would have made him born around 1715
I haven't done any "in depth" research on this Henry but put it here in case it helps.
Regards,
Jeff

HI Jeff,
afraid I am only connected to the Hardy Family via a marriage.
But Deanna could well be interested in the one you mentioned.
Nice of you to put it on here, just might be one of Deanna`s lot.

Take care.
Alan.

Hi Budgie,
The hardest part is getting to the write ups...the research and making connections is the most fun. However, I'm terrified I'll kick the bucket and leave my family with all sorts of bits and pieces I've accumulated and it won't make any sense.....so I keep at it.
While I've done all the family research, I don't have one picture of a Woolley. I've found lots of pictures of old Clifton, the church etc., I still don't know what a Woolley looks like. If you know of any please let me know.
Many thanks again for all your help.
Deanna

Deanna, :)
I dont have any Woolley photos but there are some on this site,
Go to top of this page and just under the FH UK Logo, click on Family Trees tab.

Then in the Red search column on left scroll down to "Photos" and click on it.
On Photos page type WOOLLEY In the the Searchbox (Centre top) and click.

The young Harriet Woolley is the spitting image of my granddaughter at that age..

If you then click on persons name in right hand column you will get information on them.

Alan
:)

Hi Alan,
I just received an email from Nottingham Archives after I enquired more about the Diaries of Joseph Woolley and it appears someone at the archives has done extensive research into Joseph Woolley and determined that he had no children. (No wonder he had time to write diaries!!!) There were three Joseph Woolleys in Clifton apparently. I'll have to go back to my notes and inquire more. Perhaps you already knew this...but thought you would be interested.
Deanna
