Lieutenant Vernon Douglas Hodge OBE my relative. Could someone tell me please the reason why Vernon was awarded the OBE? I know he died on 27th February 1942 serving on H.M.S Jupiter.

There should be a published list of all the honours for every year.

Perhaps gibbo will have better luck.

From what I can see, is that The OBE was awarded for gallantry because the act fell short of the George Cross.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire. The newspaper where the information came from was; The Scotsman 11 July 1940 page 6 Article. I am sorry but I couldn't find out the reason why he received the OBE.
