I wish to obtain a copy of a death certificate issued in the London area in December 1995. I have found relevant details on FMP but instead of the anticipated Volume/Page reference numbers, District No., Registration No., Entry No., and DOR are shown. What should I quote on my on-line application to GRO?

Because of the continuing sensitivity of some of the family to the circumstances of the death, I feel I should not reveal any further identification.

If you are applying to the GRO but do not have the GRO reference number you can still apply but when you come to the question 'Do you have the GRO reference' you answer No. You will then be given a fresh page which asks various questions on what you do know. The GRO will then carry out a search and send you the apropiate certificate.

The only drawback is that you will have to wait longer for the certificate to be despatched.
