What was his occupation before he boarded ship or is it before the Censuses started?

1851 Letter carrier.

Looking at it again I suppose the first few uptights could be the l and tt in letter. Could it be Letterman?

Not sure about that Emeltee.

Can't decide what the first letter is but the second looks like a 'y' to me.

There is a second film that is not on-line. A copy is in the State Library so one day next week I'll have a look.

I looked at the 2nd reel to check parents and mother is not Ann (nee Chester).

The arrival in Queensland fits. The age is 5 years out. Father as William fits. Mother as Betsey does not fit. Occupation does not fit - a letter carrier in 1851. Death reg does not have mother as Ann or Betsey. Death is several months after spouse Emma nee Thompson remarried in Queensland. No age at death.

Death 29 May 1863/C0680 De Fraine William - William De Fraine - Marian Hughes ?

No sign of a 2nd William born 1820 - 1830 with father = William so don't know what bits to believe.
