Any info on Ernest after the war?

Cannot seem to find his death year.....was a veteran during WW1 seeing as he signed up in 1893

Can anyone see if he maybe served in the Boer War......and any info on the medals would be great.

So he saw out the second world war as well...just.
Wonder what the poor chap made of it all....he probably served in the Boer War also so he lived through three major ding dongs.........so he had probably had enough.

Had a quick look in military records for the Boer War but he is not listed as having served in South Africa. Could he have been in India or another part of the Empire?

Thanks to Julie for sending me his War records...incredibly fascinating...25 years of service,and not one blemish.
Cheers to Jay as well....he had a Tattoo on his right forearm...and i reckon his dad Walter would have been incredibly proud of him.

Thanks Dave for confiming his service in the Boer War and in India....think his wound in 1915 was a blessing in some ways....it probably spared his life bearing in mind the war went on for another three years....but if anyone deserved a bit of luck it was Ernest Halke i reckon....he drew a decent pension and spent his final years dodging WW2 bombs in Sheffield:biggrin:

I am reckoning he would have had a lot to say about that before he left his mortal form:biggrin:

His wife Gertrude lived to be 101!

I don't think that he was in the Second Boer War as it was 1899 to 1902 and he was in South Africa in 1894. An interesting military life though. Did he leave any letters or diaries?

That is true...must have been based there just before the troubles kicked off.
Not sure about diaries etc Jay....it would have been a best seller for sure these days.
