Hi Looking for a pasesenger list for a ship at sea 1874 sailing india to England. Where should I look??
I have a family returning to England and want to find who was on the ship. Victoria Gillingham was b. 8/10/1874 on board the ship. With Mother Catherine Gillingham (nee Keoling) and Victoria's sister Maud Gillingham b. 5th September in Rangoon India. I am missing anything on the father Robert Gillingham (10th Foot 2nd Batt) and the son (who is my ancestor) Alfred Henry Gillingham b.1868 in Trimulgherry India. TIA Ian

The majority of inward passenger lists from 1878 to 1960 and outward passenger lists from 1890 to 1960 have survived. There are very few records in The National Archives of passengers before 1878.

No hit on any of the three names.

Very interesting as my direct relative and I believed the oldest boy Alfred was also born in Trimulgherry. 10th foot were in the area at this time before moving on to Rangoon

Not been able to find a death for the mother or father.
Im wondering since Victoria was born at sea in 1874 and then her and her sister are noted as orphans in 1881 that leaves a death for her mother between Oct 1874 and 1881 census which i can't find a death in the UK for her which makes me think Catherine may have died at sea.
Were the 2 girls the only kids of their's who went to the UK? Did your Alfred stay in India or did he go the to UK as well?

Something to ponder..

Forces War Records has 5x entries for a Robert Gillingham [service no 75] between 1861-1868 which may be Robert. All variants of Sergeant. Son, Alfred's marriage has his father as a colour sergeant [dec].
