Hello Brian,

I take it these are the correct marriages:

Marriages
3715/1879 DOBBINS ISAAC - RITCHIE SUSANNAH - MANNING RIVER
5134/1883 LOTEN ERNEST G - RITCHIE KATE - WINGHAM
6003/1894 POWELL REVNOTON S E - RITCHIE MARY - PETERSHAM

So no birth reg for those three but there are these:

Births
8897/1863 RICHIE JOHN - PETER - MARGARET - MANNING RIVER
10885/1867 RITCHIE EMELINE J - PETER - MARGARET - MANNING RIVER
12571/1872 RITCHIE PETER DAVID - PETER - MARGARET - MANNING RIVER

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave
I have just joined and hope I`m posting on correct forum...so hear goes.
I have information on Peter and Margaret`s son not mentioned on your thread called Alexander b.1856 d.1899 and buried at Scotts Creek, Mitchells Island. He is my gggf and I have visited the grave as I live in the area. After he died his brother John Boden Ritchie b.1863 d.1939( in the BDM his name is spelt RICHIE on his birth )married his widow Charlotte (nee Atkins) and they had more children.I know that when Peter and Margaret arrived here he helped clear land at Glenthorne as he is named in a local history book.I also have a cemetary book showing Peter death in 1878 at age 53 yrs old making him perhaps born in 1825.A family member tells me his birth cert shows he was from Perthshire Scotland and his mother is Jesse and and no father on cert. And thats as far as I have got.I would very much appreciate any other information or some direction on where to go next.

Thankyou
:)

Many thanks for the details.

I'll have to refresh my memory on this part of my tree. It's not one of my direct lines.

The members here will try to answer your queries.

So Peter was about 17 when he enlisted in the 99th.

I posted on the Other Military board but have had no replies so far:

http://www.forum.familyhistory.uk.com/showthread.php?t=24726

Seems no one yet has any more info on Peter prior to 1842. For example, no one claims to have found him in 1841 census.

NSW Death 7103/1878 RITCHIE PETER - JESSIE - MANNING RIVER

I don't know who the informant was. Either the informant didn't know Peter's father or if Jessie is correct was she unmarried at the time? How reliable then is the mother's name as Jessie? If it is Scotland that could be Jane/Janet/Jean also.

I have an 1841 census in Perthshire for a Peter Ritchie. The birthdate ties in. He was living in what may have been a boarding house. I can't say it was our Peter Ritchie. The next information I have is his mounted trooper records in Sydney and the move to Yass and then Mitchell's Island. If I can help please let me know.
