Would be glad of any information re Philip in the Angus area of Scotland Have traced as far as Andrew Philip died 1855, his parents were John Philip & Margaret Edward............Thanks....W.Phillip

Hi and welcome to the FHUK forum.
Do you have a copy of the 1855 death cert for Andrew Philip ? Along with his parents names it should also give details of all his children and their ages , also if they had died it will also name them and give their age at death.
How old was Andrew when he died ?

Thanks for reply...Have death cert. Know names of Andrews father and mother but does not state ages....Have checked Parish records, cannot trace any further back.....any suggestions.........Thanks

Did he have a wife if so what was her name ?
Do you have him on the 1841/1851 census ?
Do you know where abouts in Angus he was born ?

Andrew Philip was 83 years when he died 1855

Andrew's wifes names were 1st wife Agnes Ormand.. 2nd Mary Robertson (D 1868)

1841 census, living in Monikie with wife Mary and 4 children

Stated on death cert he had lived in Monikie for 70 years

Born Murroes Forfarshire

Hope you can help........Have only the names of his father & mother,it is them I require help with .........Many thanks William Phillip

I have found the marriage of John Phillip & Margaret Andrew 18 Feb 1768 Maines and Strathmartine, Angus.
Will look to see if I can find anything else.

I can find only one baptism on IGI for Andrew Phillip with father John, no mothers name given.
25 Dec 1768 Murroes, Angus. This is approx 5 miles from Monikie.

Thanks for your help....But it is Margaret Edward for sure, it states this on Andrews death cert.

Have managed to find Baptism as you found .....thanks again...William Phillip

Glad to be of assistance William.
As you know the mothers name is not always recorded on baptisms. Not very helpful when there are a quite a few births with the same name and same fathers name born around the same time and area.
I have tried to look for the baptisms of John Phillip and Margaret Edward .
There are quite a few John Phillip baptisms in Angus but loads for Margaret Edward. Without the fathers name it is difficult to pin point.
