I have have been trying to find my greatgrandfather, Henry Phillips on 1881 & 1891 census. he was born in 1871, devonshire. his father is John Phillips a Farmer. I do not know who John phillips's wife is or if there are any brothers or sisters of henry. would appreciate any info. Thanks

I can see two possible Henry Phillips born Devon in the 1911 census.

In 1901 they have a gent George Galling 64 father in law living with them.

In 1891 Henry is a visitor at a residence with George Galling 54, Mary Jane Galling 54 and children Mary Jane 19 (his future wife), Emily Gloyn 9 and William Henry Gloyn 7

Married 20 years. 3 children, 1 has died.

Living at Taw Green, Winkleigh.

Looks like Jane has dropped her first name of Mary.

Hi Thank you for your reply.

I don't think this is my family, my G Grandfather Henry phillips was born in 1871 which puts the age about right, he was found on the 1901 census, under the name of harry phillips Living with Annie maud Roberts and her family,at 101 south street, Newington, who he married 1 year later. I am sure this must be him as its to much of a coincidence. I cannot find his birth cert ,to say exactly where he was born but on the 1901 census it says Devonshire & he was a Labourer he was married in 1902 in Walworth, London & apparantly only had 1 child my Grandad Henry Athur Phillips in 1903, Lambeth.

I have a theory. If you say the Henry Steve found is not yours, how about this one.

1901 - Harry 30 living with the Roberts family ref RG13-2029-58-29 You have to look at the image as Harry has been left off the transcript,

1891 - RG12-1675-48-4 Ann Phillips 46 with children Henry 20 and Mary Emma 6. Ann is a single parent born in Withycombe.

1881 - RG11-2138-78-6 Ann Phillips 36 with John Teed Phillips and Harry Teed Phillips 10 born Littleham, Exmouth Devon

1871 - RG10-3048-59-1 Ann Phillips 26 living with Mary Dabel 31 mar down as daug, and her 4 children. Ann is also down as daug and her children John Teed 6 and Harry Teed 0 as G.son. Also there is Charlotte Phillips 22 Daug and Martha Phillips 21 daug

1861 - RG09-1383-11-15 Ann, Charlotte and Marhta in family home

here is the theory, that the father of Ann's children was John Teed
1861 there is a Teed family living in Colerton Raleigh. Son John Teed was born in 1849 at Aylesbere. These two places are very close to Withycombe

Thanks for all the info, your theory could be right. I am waiting for a marriage certificate between Henry Phillips & Annie maud Roberts, i'm not sure if this will help. I am trying to find the birth details of henry phillips so that I can order it as this will give me both parents (hopefuly)
