I have a heap of photos that belonged to my late father from his time in the Army mostly concentrating around the time he spent in Cyprus mid 1950's to the late 1950's.
This photo been one of them. Does anyone know when they finished training in England if they had group photos? Trying to work out if it was taken in England or Cyprus.

I wish i knew about these photos existing before Dad passed. That photo has several signatures on the back of it but been the 1950's would be pushing luck trying to find them due to those military records not been available and some of the signatures are not real clear. Would have been nice to send their families a copy of the photo.

"If" only we knew lots of facts but as they say 'that's life'
When my gran died my sister found 2 very large framed photos of 2 women taken about 1890, we don't know who they are but have guessed one is of my grans mother and her sister but I guess we will never really know for sure.
The strange thing is that as a child I regulary stayed at my grans but have no recollection of ever seeing the pictures before - all very strange!

Yes.

I have dozens of photos found when my father passed a few years ago. Some of him in the army in Syria. I have photos of families in Queensland - easy to tell by the design of the house on stilts. I have no idea if they are Hamilton or Blackley or McLuckie.

I have a feeling that this photo is a group type photo taken professionally, it's totally different to the other photos.
One of the other photos has written on it "Took in Half Track, Jock on the right" Ok i can clearly see Dad is on the left of the photo and Jock is on the right but no name for ole mate who is behind them but noticeably in the photo as well  Another photo has "love Reg" on it, it was sent to his Aunt but there is Dad and someone else in the photo, no name of the other fella on it. Also have some photos of a group of men and he has just written "The Troop at Platres" Its only a small photo and will have no luck of knowing who was in his troop to be able to send their families copies. Just been wondering that their families might like to see them but my hands are tied.

Not much either of us can do. You can identify several people and I'm stuck with no clues re the Qld. ones. I have not scanned them so I will do that one day soon.

I would say it's England. The uniform isn't the right one for hot climates, a lighter khaki colour, I would think. Taken on a sunny day possibly, but more than likely.
I have a photo of my Brother in 1959 doing his National Service, and the timber sectional buildings were extremely similar, as most of the M.O.D stuff usually is.
Not sure how long the basic training is, is it 6 months.? Perhaps Brian aka. 'thecelticbard' might know....... https://forum.familyhistory.uk.com/members/thecelticbard.18804/ ........ (y)
