I have recently found that one of my relatives appears on the census of 1851 and his occupation was a Police Constable. What is the best way of going about finding any records of his police service ect.

He was living in Teddington at the time which is now in the metropolitan police area, Would it worth contacting them for any archives???

Hi joejoerey1

It is very likely that his police records will be at the London Metropolitan Archives. Google that name for their website. If you know his name, area of residence, and that he was a constable in 1851, then this can point you in the right direction.

I take it this is Richard Sawyer, the father of your John?

Hi

The records should tell you when he joined and what year he retired. If he was a constable, then he may have been in reciept of a pension once he left the police force.
