Professional researchers?

Have any of you considered hiring one or hired one? I prefer to do it myself as some can rip you off or find random occurrences of a name you are after when you just want info on what people with that name you have and work onwards from that. Also they may go down the wrong line with certain lines in your tree.

I much prefer to do the research myself even if I have to wait until another trip to London or Essex or Sussex to find info not yet online, or wait until I book a summer trip to Oxford to do some in depth research. I had a researcher who noted down every random occurrence of the surname Coombs and variants she had come across whether London or Cornwall when looking for names. She also charged me every time she found such an occurrence when I rather go on what I have already got and go from there. Luckily now I have found my George Coombs.
