Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. Noel died 22 Sep 1964 and one researcher has 24th Mt Thompson Crematorium, Qld. and 24th Sep 1964 as the death for Leila. I doubt her death is correct.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave and Crankypants

I discovered your thread about John Davidson, Elizabeth Whitehill Macnicol and Donald Macnicol Davidson when I googled Donald's name this morning. John and Elizabeth were my maternal great grandparents, Donald my great uncle. Would love to make contact and share family notes

Cheers
Lorraine

Gidday Dave,

Some few days back I was informed of your POSTINGS on this Mailing List!

Re: your POST #128 31st October 2009 1512h

I am quite probably the " BRYANT descendant in N Qld " you refer to in your POST.

My side of the allied families represents BRYANT, MELLEFONT, BROWNE, COSSART, EDGLEY to mention a few I have researched.

Cheers

Does she think she is still in Scotland. :2fun: married but using her maiden name:

Death1890/C0210 Macnicol Elizabeth - -

Burial Details:
Surname: MACNICOL Given Name(s): Elizabeth
Year of Birth: 1833 Year of Death: 1890
Gender: Female Funeral Director: n/a
Place of Residence: Bundaberg Place of Birth: n/a
Church: Presbyterian Minister: n/a

Grave Details:

Can't find Elizabeth's birth or arrival. Wonder if she was born in Victoria or Tasmania.

I wonder where the middle name Whitehill comes from.

Hi Dave

Elizabeth Whitehill McNicol's 2nd Marriage was to John Davidson. She was first married to Edward Howard Oxenbould at Warwick on 14 Sep 1878. Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth Campbell, born 12 Jan 1833 in Glasgow, Lanarckshire and her grandmother was Elizabeth Whitehill, born about 1803 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. Hopefully my research is correct.

Elizabeth Whitehill married Donald/Daniel Campbell 24 Jun 1820 in Abbey Johnstone Renfrewshire. They had 6 children John b abt 1821, Mary b abt 1823, Daniel born 26 Jul 1824, Duncan born 9 May 1826, William born 18 Jul 1828 and Elizabeth born 12 Jan 1833. The other 3 children I have births for were at Johnstone Renfrewshire.

Elizabeth (Whitehill) and her Daughter Elizabeth (Campbell) arrived in Melbourne from Scotland in Dec 1854 aboard the “Earl of Eglinton”. William arrived on the same ship. Unsure whether her brothers John and Daniel had also come to Australia.

At the time of her death, Elizabeth (Whitehill) had lived in Victoria for about 24 years. her surviving children were John aged 55, Daniel aged 52, William aged 48 and Elizabeth aged 43, which correlates with their birth years. Duncan and Mary were both deceased. She died in Maffra, Vic.

Elizabeth (Campbell) is buried in Bundaberg with her son-in-law John Davidson. She married Donald Macnicol on 5 Feb 1855 in Geelong.

My great grandmother, Elizabeth Whitehill Macnicol/McNicol was born 5 Nov 1855 in Geelong. On a visit to Geelong to try to solve the missing births for Elizabeth and her brother Walter, Rob Sims was advised that one shipment of Birth Registrations from Geelong to Melbourne was accidentally dropped into the Yarra River whilst being unloaded from a boat in Melbourne and it covered birth registrations around the 1854-1856 period. Birth date was found in the Geelong Advertiser of 7/11/1855 which states :At Geelong, Port Phillip on the 5th instant Mr & Mrs. D Macnicol, of a daughter"" The Geelong Advertiser also gave the birth date for Walter Gibb Macnicol as 3/5/1857 in Geelong.

Have lots of other information I have gleaned from research, which I hope is correct, and from relatives. Am happy to send a family file of my information. You can contact me at ..........Email address removed for security reason per site policy

Cheers

Hello Lorraine,

Thanks for the info. The details of Whitehill and Macnicol are all new to me so I'm in no position to say how accurate it is.

I am very remotely connected. I will try to work out how in a few minutes and let you know. ;)

My grandmother's sister married William Hirst KILNER who's grandmother was Caroline NOBLE.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Lorraine,

One thing that always sticks in my mind re NOBLE family is this issue that no seems able to solve:

Emma ROPER born or baptised 28 Feb 1828

Bentley, Sussex - mother Elizabeth WIGG ? or

Ufford, Suffolk - mother Elizabeth HAWARD ? or

Colchester, Essex ?

Regards,

Dave

Yes thanks, Lee. That's one of three different versions of the tree. Most of it seems to be correct. Different descendants have different ideas about pob for Emma.

Another example of an error in the tree. Eighth not ninth child died young.

Birth 12 Mar 1868/B08274 Noble Matilda Caroline - William Alfred - Emma Roper ** died young

Birth 12 Jul 1869/B10101 Noble Caroline Matilda - William Alfred - Emma Roper

1943 QLD Electoral Roll - Wide Bay - Tiaro
INNES Caroline Matilda, "Innooroolabar" Boompa, home duties
INNES Ralph Wroxton, Boompa, grazier
