Does anyone have any information on the Quartermaster generals office in Barbados? According to information I got off the web, this was the only military based in Barbados in the mid 1850's and comprised of the top bods, 4 leiutenants and 4 sergeants (one of which is mine!) plus about 100 privates. But I have failed completely to find any more information than that.
Unfortunately I will be posting a lot of questions relating to my Barbados rellies because there is a definate lack of information unless you can afford the holiday out there!
Thanks
Snowy

Hi Snowy...here is a picture of Vice Admiral John Graydon circa 1700.
He was a well known explorer especially in the West Indies etc.
COULD he be the father/grandfather to your John Graydon?
He seems to have a fair bit documented about himself so maybe if you googled Vice Admiral John Graydon the many links might throw up some leads.........but then again it might be just a coincidental name!

Regards Lee.

PS you can view the full catologue on him if you click on the link just below his portrait.

Thanks Leefer:)
Cant find much on him but it looks as though he died in England and my Graydons were in Ireland. Doesnt rule it out of course, and I would rather like to point at that picture and say thats my ancestor lol

So, getting fed up (as I do) rooting around one side of the family and switch over to the other, I start looking at my dads gggrandad who was also in the army (Royal Artillery). Get his pension records and lo and behold, dads gggrandad was stationed in Barbados the same time as mums gggrandad
They were both born in Ireland within a few years of each other so now Im wondering, what are the chances that they met and chatted as the garrison was fairly small and dads gggrandad was there for over 18 months :D
The only way this would have affected my mum and dad meeting was that they both ended up being born in the Woolwich area because of the ancestors ending up there due to their army connections.
