This is the link Alison posted and though very morbid i learnt a few things.
A suprising and maybe worrying stat was the 18 US military men executed in less than three years in England during WW2.....for rape and murder,the worrying thing really was that all but one had a trial that lasted a day and no more.
Of course no doubt local anger meant that swift justice was probably needed to keep relations happy.
Unknown to me four of the cases were very local,Chiseldon near Swindon...Marlborough down the road,Tidworth barracks and Bishops Cleeve in Cheltenham.
