Rachel McLEOD b. about 1832 ROC ? d. 1909 NSW, Aust.

Death Reg#8282/1909 FAIRWEATHER RACHEL MCL ANGUS BALMAIN NORTH

Rachel married William FAIRWEATHER in 1853:

12/12/1853 FAIRWEATHER WILLIAM RACHEL MCLEOD/FR8260 M Glasgow Glasgow CITY/LANARK 644/001 0440 0400

I think this is a sibling:

14/12/1830 MACLEOD ISSABELLA ANGUS MACLEOD/CATHARINE MACLEOD FR214 F Stornoway /ROSS AND CROMARTY 088/ 0020 0055

Rachel and spouse went to NSW between 12 Dec 1853 and 1855 because the birth of their first child Mary Jane was in 1855 in NSW.

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave

Here are two possible marriages for Angus and Catherine.

Angus Macleod marries Catherine McDonald on the
13 NOV 1822 Stornoway, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland

Angus MacLeod marries Catherine Bethune on 12 NOV 1828 Stornoway, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland.

It now is a case of deciding which marriage is your Angus and Catherine.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for your help,

For the life of me I can't find Rachel in SP but if the one I did find is a sibling then mother's maiden name is shown as MACLEOD also. Or this is the marriage:

30/12/1830 MCLEOD ANGUS CHRISTINA MCLEOD/ M Stornoway /ROSS AND CROMARTY 088/ 0020 0350

Notice it is McL as per Rachel's death reg and not MacL and Issabella may not be a sibling after all.

Hmmmm.

Hi Dave

Dont be thrown off by a few inconsistencies in the spellings of surnames. Mac and Mc often get mixed up. A MacLeod can always be mitsranscribed as McLeod.

Hello Ben,

That leaves me with at least three possible marriages and no sign of a birth date for Rachel. Yet another one from Scotland or Ireland it looks like I won't be able to solve. There is no information about her mother on the death registration so we are stuck until I can find someone else researching this family.

Regards,

Dave
