In one census record I found, a person realation to head was a niece and 10 years later same people on census, the same person realation to head changed to a step daughter.
Who knows - you could call them what you want. could depend who supplied the info and what they knew them as. could have been that they called her a niece as they didn't want people to know she was the child of someone else
I had a relation known as cousin Alice until I started my family tree, and found she was the child of a deceased great aunt
Yes I came across 2 people down as children of the Head of the family and yet I knew that they were in fact younger brother and sister of the Head. Not sure who completed the census return
