Richard Reeve from Ascot married Elizabeth Watts from Leafield in 1712 in Shipton under Wychwood. I have been looking for births/baptisms for them both to establish who their parents were. Following a rather circuitous route I have been searching Oxfordshire wills and have found a will for a Mark Reeve who died in Shipton in 1722. He leaves bequests to his son Richard and daughters Jane Shayler and Ann Wheeler. The daughters married names fit with information that I have so I know I have the right family. He also mentions wife Dorothy. She is his second wife, Dorothy Bennet whom he married in Chipping Norton in 1712.

Will number two belongs to a Percy Watts who died in 1717 in Hailey in the parish of Witney. In the will he leaves bequests to his daughter Elizabeth Reeve and to two of her sons whose names fit with information I already have so I am pretty sure that I have the right family.

So what I am looking for, apart from baptisms for Richard Reeve and Elizabeth Watts, is any marriage of Mark Reeve and the marriage of Percy Watts to a Margaret and any possible births for them. This would all have been in the latter part of the 1600's, probably in the Witney/Shipton area.

Grateful for any help.

From the OxFHS Marriage Inex. 1538-1837.

Mark REAVE married Elizabeth Curtis, 27 June 1647 @ Shipton U Wychwood.

The parish registers or transcripts, may give other information, regarding witnesses etc.

I cannot find a marriage for Percy Watts as yet in the index. I'm trying for variations of Watts at the moment.

While I'm in the Mark Reeve/s list, I'll post these, as they may be of interest.

31 Dec 1712 - Dorothy Bennet @ Chip. Norton.
11 Nov 1737 - Mary Riman(of Ascott) @ Ship. U. Wych.
20 April 1761 - Rebecca Ward. @ Swinford. Mark Reeve of Burford.
4 Aug 1791 - Jane May. @ Ship U Wych. Mark Reeve a widower.

Many thanks for the info, in particualar the 1647 marriage of Mark Reave and Elizabeth Curtis which looks very promising. The marriage to Dorothy Bennet was Mark's second marriage. At least one of the others is probably a son of Richard and Elizabeth.

With regard to the Watts name when Richard Reeve and Elizabeth Watts married in 1712 her surname was spelt Wotts. Like the name Reeve I am sure there are many variations.

Many thanks for looking. Isn't it typical that waiting ages for Oxfordshire BMD's to come on line they go onto a site I don't subscribe to!

I searched just for the christian name of Percy/Purcey/Purcell etc., and nothing at all. I ploughed through all the W index. for variations of Wots/Wats/Whotts etc.

He's hiding somewhere.

Hate to be a pain but have you tried Piercy?

Emeltee
Way ahead of you on that one MLT. 'Pierc' will bring up more results, but all of them were surnames.

You name it, I've tried it.....Pearcey, Peercy, Paecy, Parsey.

The easiest way I found was looking for 'Rich' in the index.......as P comes before R.:2fun:

Unless you can think of a version for WATTS, without a W, I'm at a loss.
