1st Batt. 12th Reg. of Foot.

D.O.B - 1st Dec. 1851.
Brompton, Kent.
Baptism - 28th Dec.1851
Jacob Aaron Moore.

Parents Names - Jacob & Rebecca Moore.
Rank of Father - Private.
Chaplain - Charles Greer.
Adjutant - Lt. Thomas Dundas.

I searched for Lt.Dundas and found him at The barracks in Chatham.
So I went through 5 pages of the original census and found Jacob Moore(b.1819. Galston, Norfolk), and Rebecca(b.1824. Torquay, Devon). And son William Moore(b.1850.Chatham, Kent).

What do you reckon Julie.

Julie, if William was born 1850, then young Jacob (Dec.1851) would not have appeared on the 1851 census, if it was taken in March 1851.

William would be Jacob's brother.

When I search in later census, Galston, Norfolk comes up as Gorleston, Suffolk.
Was Galston/Gorleston ever in Norfolk.

Okay, here's what I've found so far.

Rebecca Moore dies in 1858, along with son William in 1857. Both in Norfolk.

In 1860, Jacob Moore senior has re-married to Mary Ann Nelson, in Mutford District, Norfolk.

Jacob Moore Junior is with them in 1861. Gone by 1871.(into the army ? ?)

Jacob Moore Senior dies in 1888, Mutford district.

Mary Anne Moore dies in 1894.

All I need is Jacob Moore senior marriage details to Rebecca.

Hi Steve

I found a Benjamin Moore (mistranscribed as Mone) with wife Mary in the 1851 census in Gorleston. Benjamin is aged 58 and Mary is aged 56. Benjamin is a Maltsters labourer born Tasbury, Norfolk (probably Tasburgh) with children Isaac aged 26, Charlotte aged 20, Harriet aged 17, Mary Ann aged 15, Winifred aged 10 and William aged 3. All the children were born in Gorleston.

Possible parents and siblings of Jacob Aaron Moore.

It could be he was baptised just Aaron but Jacob was later added.

Hi Ben, me again.

I looked through all of the 1841 census for Gorleston, and found no other Moores'.

So I had a look in 1841 Tasburgh, Norfolk and guess what I found.

District 11.

Henery Moore. 33. Ag.lab.
Elizabeth Moore. 30.
Jacob Moore. 10. ??

Also.

Robert Moore. 15 (on his own)

plus.

William Moore. 47. Inn Keeper.
Sophia. 55.
George. 14.

And they are all the Moores I have found in 1841, in Gorleston and Tasburgh.

Finding that Jacob in Tasburgh does throw a slight spanner in the works as to which one was your Jacob Aaron Moore. Was it Jacob son of Henry or that Aaron son of Benjamin?

I cannot find Aaron or Jacob after 1841 yet.

I am sure Benjamin and Henry are related.

I am not sure that 10 year old Jacob is yours as yours was born in about 1821 whereas this one was born in about 1830. Not impossible but I would go more for the one born in 1822 as just Aaron Moore.

I think one of them is your man to say the least.

I'm reasonably sure that Benjamin was the father Ben, as the age for Henry's Jacob, even rounded down 5 years would still be too far out.

And like you say, all these Moore's I would think are related as there are not very many about.

But isn't that strange though Ben, one son Aaron, and another Jacob. Those two names must figure highly in their predecessors somewhere.

I just wish I could find out more(moore:biggrin: ) , but I think that may be the end of the road with the Moores.

I've ordered a marriage cert with Jacob Moore and Rebecca (Brown) but it's in Daventry, Northants. That all I could find Ben.

Worth a try, as there was an Army Garrison just outside Daventry, at Weedon Bec, Northants.
But I ask myself, how would Rebecca get from Devon to Northamptonshire in the late 1840's, and why. Unless Jacob was stationed at Plymouth or Exmouth.

The place is a bit out but in 1849 on the IGI a Jacob Moore wed a Rebecca Browne on the 29th April 1849 in Burslem, Stafford.

Now we need to find a Rebecca Brown/Browne born in Torquay in about 1824 as this will help confirm your suspicions.
