Hello,

1851
Civil Parish: Govan
Town: Partick
County: Lanarkshire
Address: Castlewalk Street Jamieson's Lands
REID James, Head 1803 age 48 Foreman Thread Manufactores Paisley, Renfrew
REID Janet, Wife 1811 age 40 Paisley, Renfrew
REID Jean, daughter 1836 age 15 Paisley, Renfrew
REID Robert, Son 1838 age 13 Message Boy Paisley, Renfrew
REID Jessie, Daughter 1842 age 9 Scholar Paisley, Renfrew
REID Margaret, Daughter 1844 age 7 Paisley, Renfrew
REID Barbara, Daughter 1849 age 2 Paisley, Renfrew
Marriage # 2763/1861 REID ROBERT C MCGREGOR ISABELLA RAYMOND TERRACE

Family arrived in Australia 1851 - 1861. ???

Jessie and Barbara married in NSW in 1874.

James is in NSW by 1878:

1878-79 N.S.W Electoral Roll - The Glebe
REID James, St. John’s Road, freehold, House St. John’s Road Glebe

Janet also arrived because she is still alive when daughter Jessie died:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Tuesday 20 December 1892, p. 8
THE FRIENDS of Mr. JAMES ARMSTRONG are kindly invited to attend the Funeral of his late beloved Wife, to leave the residence of her mother Mrs. Janet Reid, No 89 St. John's-road, Forest Lodge, THIS AFTERNOON, at half-past 1, for Rookwood.

Jean died in 1900 so Margaret is the only one not accounted for in NSW so perhaps the whole family arrived between 1851 and 1861. If not together then Robert arrived first and the others followed perhaps after 1861, even after 1871 for some of them.

Regards,

Dave

The passenger list isnt real clear but it appears James was a weaver and they are from Paisley, Renfrew.
Im confused tho cause young Thomas isnt on the actual list:confused: If he died on voyage he obviously was on the ship

Thanks gibbo. I'd say closed. :D

Ages are a bit up and down but that has to be the family.

That is curious. Thomas is not on the image with the family.

Thomas is shown as age 1 not I = Infant so I'd better look for a birth in Scotland.

Yeah that confused me, Thomas been on the index but not on the actual list. I did check on the off chance they registered his death when they arrived here but i couldnt see a death index that fitted.

Curious.

I checked the last page where there is always a summary and no deaths or births listed.

Yeah i checked the last page as well and nothing. Maybe a missing page or lousy book keeping:rolleyes: Cant leave the poor little fella off the tree if he existed so i'll keep digging around and see if we cant confirm him.
