Researching great-grandparents lives...

Hi, new to this site and wondered if anyone could help please.

Have been researching my late grandmother's parents partially because both her and her sister were adopted around 1924. Father William Keyte, mother Mary Jane Spittlehouse. I have birth, marriage and death certs for them both. Mary Jane Spittlehouse (formerly Cordall) never married William Keyte yet had my grandmother and her sister in 1921 and 1926 respectively. She was married to Frank Spittlehouse (who was in WW1 Sherwood Foresters) in 1906, although in the 1911 cenus, she has disappeared, leaving a daughter Madge Spittlehouse with her mother and father and her husband (Frank) living with hsi parents. If possible I would just like to learn a bit more about Mary Jane's life, why she was not in the 1911 census and why she never married William Keyte, and subsequently why she died in Burton Upon Trent when she had lived in Nottingham.

Sorry it is a bit of a ramble. Can explain more if needed, basically though just want to build more of an idea of my great-grandparents' lives, more than just significant dates, any advice on what other resources are available would be useful.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.
