I am researching an aunt of mine who left home at 15 1/2 and married Richard Johnson Ormston at Whitby Registry Office on 6/10/1905. She was born Annie Lottie Kathleen Lofty in 1889 but at her marriage called herself Lottie Kathleen Lofty. She inflated her age to 21 and gave her father's correct name - Charles Emms Lofty. Richard Ormston was the son of William and Isabelle Ormston, he was the stationmaster at Kettleness station. My aunt then disappears until on 25th October 1919, she marries Eric Roy Davis at Bath (giving her name as Patricia Kathleen Mulholland). As I have been unable to find any record of divorce I assume that this 'marriage' was bigamous. Furthermore, Richard 'married Elsie Thomson in Liverpool on 27/6/1915. Presumably this, too, was bigamous! I'm interested in finding out about Lottie and Richard when they lived near Whitby and if anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction to look, I'd be very grateful.

Have you found them in the 1939 register, and does place of Birth tally. Must have been excempt from WW1 as I never found a record. If your research is right then they must have parted company .You can declaire that you are widow/er after hearing nothing for 7 yrs. Also Divorce was very dear at that time and most moved to another part of the Country or emigrated.

Thanks, Ellie. My aunt, who was known to the family as 'Pat', died in Paris in 1932. She and Eric had adopted a boy in 1924 but, as that was prior to promulgation of the Adoption Act, there appear to be no records (I've tried C of E and Catholic Churches in Hampshire where the 'adoption' allegedly took place.
I've confirmed her marriage to Richard and his subsequent one to Elsie. I'm trying to find out anything about Pat and Richard from their 1905 wedding onwards - there are no apparent family records or even mention! Frustrting.
