Pathetic NSW BMD - they can't even keep the server up.

Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

They can't even provide the details they used to on the old server, viz. the Registration District.

Thanks gibbo.

I notice the NSW BMD no longer shows the volume number. I can probably still find it on film. It will be Vol 41 or 44.

Thanks Geoff but that does not say if it's Vol 41 or 44.

That 'V' in front of the 'B' should be 41 or 44.

The 'B' means it's a second set of records. Not easy to explain.

A Volume covers a particular Religion and a particular year. The parishes are listed in any order in date sequence within the parish. A second and sometimes a third set of parishes then run again in date sequence.

Married 1854 in NSW and died 1917 in NSW and married 29 years ??

Something is very wrong.

No idea what it is with FS but it makes my CPU go from 2% to 22% and I can't type any character into the search form.

Baptism for Richard in Hampshire in 1828 ?? Not on FreeREG.

The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate (Parramatta, NSW) - Sat 8 Sep 1917 p.2
DEATHS IN THE DISTRICT.
The death took place on 3rd inst. of Mr. Richard (Joseph) Boxall, at the residence of his daughter, 'Ambrym' Good-street, Granville. He had reached the great age of 93 years, and the cause of death was senile decay. He was a native of Manchester (England), and had been a resident of New South Wales for 79 years. ...

Born Hampshire or Manchester ??

Arrived abt 1838 or after 1841 census ?

No baptism in Lancs on FreeREG or Lancs OPC.

I can't find a baptism for him in Lancashire. There is a possible in Hampshire

Richard Boxall 24 August 1828 Elvetham parents Edward and Mary.

However Elvetham is 25 miles from Winchester.

Thanks Emeltee.

No parents on death reg. Age at death 93 or in his 93rd year.

Hampshire is probably more likely. I'm wondering if Manchester is an error.

I got FS to work for a few minutes.

1841
HO107 Piece/Book 414/3 Folio 7 Page 8
Civil Parish: Portsea
County: Hampshire
Registration District: Portsea Island
ED:
Address: Grigg St
Richard Batchelor 40 Y
and family
Richard Boxall 15 Y

But if 79 years in NSW is correct then he won't be in 1841 census.

Do we have one born abt 1824 and the other 1828 ?

If they can't get his pob right how sure can you be that he had been in Australia for 79 years. He would have been about ten when he arrived if that figure is correct.

Cemetery record has age as 93.

I think the age and pob on birth reg of youngest child probably more accurate.

14 June 1880, Richard, Hampshire, 52

Perhaps the newspaper misread Winchester for Manchester.

He would not be 15 in 1841 then so it still points to 2x Richard.

Don't know if the 79 years in NSW is right.
