Mr. Robert Savage, one of the oldest inhabitants of Narrandera, has died, after a long and painful illness. In the early days Mr. Savage was an officer of the original Government snagging parties, employed chiefly in snagging operations on the Murrumbidgee between Wagga and Hay.

I can't find anything in Trove before 1879 for Robert.

Also a problem with his middle name. Some records have James and others John.
