robert nathaniel mindry birth lookup please

Hi there,

I am trying to find a birth for ROBERT NATHANIEL MINDRY in 1881 in Hampshire. I suspect his father to have the name Robert as well, but unsure. He emigrated to South Africa and married a Martha Sophia Manning and their children were:
Robert Michael Mindry B1917
Doreen Hester Mindry B1918
Alfred George William Mindry B1920
Dorothy Shirley Mindry B1925
Elaine May Frances Mindry B1929
Irene Winifred Mindry B1932.

Pleae could someone help me out here.

Hi Jack

Looking through the 1881 Census for Hampshire I found the following which Might help or not

At 4, Hanover St, Portsea
Frederick Robert age 34 with wife Grace born Singleton, Sussex with child Frederick Robert age 5 months born Portsmouth. Stepson Alfred Henry Duke age 8. All Mindry,other than Duke. Also in the house were Emma Moss age 21 niece and George Moss 16 nephew. All born Portsmouth except where stated.

In London there is a Robert Mindry 56 born 1825 Married. Master Gunner. born Chatham, Kent residing at H.M.S. Rainbow on the Strand. London. Not sure who or where his wife is or where.

Again in Portsea at 92, Grafton St, is Mary Mandry 56, Head born Plymouth
with Henry 20 Seaman, Edith 18 and Helena 12 Scholar. Children all born Portsmouth.

Please note spelling of Mary , above.

Without more clear help from birth cert. These are the only ones in Portsea, and obviously before your Robert's birth later in the same year.
Unless this all makes sense, I would suggest sending off for birth cert before jumping to conclusions at this stage !!

Hi Jack

I have followed the Robert Mindry from the 1881 Census who was I think the husband of Mary Mandry (sic ) in Portsea with Henry, Edith and Helena.

I found him spelt Mandry at the same address as Mary was but in 1901. On the typed census it does not say widower but on the original it does. Henry and Edith are with him but not Helena and no sign of any Robert Junior. The name is also Mindry on the original.

I cannot find anything at all in 1891.

Hope that helps rule out or in !!
