Hi there

Could sks please help me with a marriage for the following man:

Robert Nurse Born 1812, chris 12-2-1812 Sculcoates.

He was married to a Sarah, but i do not know her maiden name or year of marriage.
I know that he remarried in 1840 to an Ann White.

Kind regards
Jackie

This is a tough one. I can only recommend this:

http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com/

who may be prepared to sell you the parish records you need.

My guess is that, as Sculcoates was growing so quickly at the time (from 100 to 10,000 inhabitants in a century, from here):

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Sculcoates/index.html

some people may have foregone the inconvenience of a church marriage. If the Nurses were local for a couple of generations, that is less likely, however. How do you know that Robert and Sarah were married; did they have children?

I'm getting confused. I've found Robert 1812, son of Robert and Ann; Robert 1812 is, I presume, the man who married Ann White in Howden in 1840. I can't find Robert 1812 in the 1841 census on Ancestry, and although I did find an Ann Nurse in the Howden area she was with what looked like an extended familiy, which didn't ring true even if she'd been widowed. I'll search for it again if you can't get access and are still interested.

There's Robert 1780 from Eastrington, son of George. It looks like he married an Ann Robinson (chr 1779?) in Eastrington in 1802. Eastrington to Sculcoates wouldn't be too big a hop in those days. It might also indicate that Robert 1812 might have met Ann White from Howden while visiting grandparents or the like.

If I'm barking up the wrong tree, tell me and I'll go and do some proper work :)
