Hello,

Something is not quite right.

Page 141
Marriages solemnized in the Parish of St. Philip Sydney in the County of Cumberland in the Year 1848
No 567
Robert Pate of this Parish Bachelor
Rebecca Freeman of this Parish Spinster
married in this Church by Banns with the consent of the mother of Rebecca Freeman
Third day of January 1848 By me William Cowper
Robert (his x mark) and Rebecca signed
Witnesses: James Pate of Sydney, Ann Freeman of Tumut River

James is not Robert's father so it should be easy to find if he is a brother.

Not so eassy to find the relationship between Rebecca and Ann.

Some trees (yes, should I believe any) say this is Rebecca's baptism:

V183040 150/1830 HARTSHORN REBECCA - JOHN - ANNE

and first marriage:

V1845407 30B/1845 FREEMAN WILLIAM - HARTSHORN REBECCA MC= CofE Bungonia, Goulburn, St Saviour's (Co. Argyle), Goulburn Plains, Lake Bathurst, Marulan

Looking for deaths for William, Robert and Rebecca, James and Ann.

Thanks.

Dave

Death 10624/1911 PATE REBECCA - JOHN - ANN - KOGARAH ?

That fits with parents of Rebecca HARTSHORN.

PATE Rebecca Death notice 23SEP1911 Death 81 late of West Kogarah and Brisbane Sydney Morning Herald 25SEP1911

Age at death fits bap for Rebecca HARTSHORN.

So it seems Rebecca was not a spinster - consent of her mother. :D

Thanks gibbo. :)

I can't see a death yet for Ann HARTSHORN, Rebecca's mother alive as of 1848.

I can't see a death for Wiliam FREEMAN 1845-1848.

There are some HARTSHORN deaths in Tumut.

I wonder if Ann was Rebecca's sister who also married a FREEMAN.

No baptism for an Ann(e) HARTSHORN.

I think Ann may have been adopted, there was some issue with her parents, did she marry a Daniel Reid first?

I took an image of the marriage the other day and I'm working off it. Some things have been easy to find and others not so.

No idea what happened to William and no idea yet how witness Ann fits in.

As for Rebecca's mother ... ??? This baptism is not on film:

Bap V183040 150/1830 HARTSHORN REBECCA - JOHN - ANNE

John Hartshorn 1827 Parramatta

and..

Thomas Payne 1835, TUMUT

Thanks Geoff.

If that is St. John's CofE Parramatta then it's on a different set of films at the State Library.

I notice some trees have death for Rebecca's mother in 1836.

Both marriages were CofE.
