Interesting how the index does not list the fathers and the actual records do.

That's the last bit I knew I could find.

Yes, no wiser re James.

That's it for this one for now.

It's had a good innings... James may be a new item another time

Interesting mystery though, Pewter/Pewterer not a particularly common name - London, NE & SW England there are a few...

We will revisit the PATE and related one day, I'm sure.

The State Library has a set of films on convicts that I've never looked at so far.

I'm about to prepare a text file with the names and the arrival date and vessel for the 40 odd that I have.

Will be interesting when I finally check the total. It should not exceed 50 out of 5000.

I returned from the local library today also with 20 early NSW marriages. They will also keep me busy for a few days.

Looks as though Joseph's father and Mary Ann's mother were the witnesses.

Births:

1464/1868 FUIGE GEORGE - JAMES - MARGARET - SYDNEY
2025/1870 FUIGE MARY ANN - JAMES - MARGARET - SYDNEY

971/1866 FUIGE JAMES - MACARTHUR MARGARET - SYDNEY

Death 14105/1918 FUIGE JAMES 88 YRS SYDNEY SYDNEY

FUIGE James Funeral notice 20MAR1913 Funeral late of Sydney
Sydney Morning Herald 20MAR1913

I'll have to check TROVE.

That's an error in Ryerson because the Funeral notices in SMH 20 March 1913 are for son George FUIGE.

2376/1913 FUIGE GEORGE - JAMES - MARGARET - HURSTVILLE

Curious. The initial is clearly a 'D' not a 'J'

The Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 14 November 1913 p.8
SILVER WEDDINGS.
PATE-FUIGE.- November 14, 1888, at the manse,
Lower Fort street, Dawes Point, by the Rev. William
Bradley, Joseph Edward, eldest son of J. and H.
A. Pate, to Mary Ann, elder daughter of D. and M.
Fuige. Present address, Yoorooga, St. Luke street
Randwick.

H. A. = Eleanor Ann = Helen = Helena A = Ellen in various records

The Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 7 December 1866 p.1
MARRIAGES
On Thursday, 6th instant, at the Scots' Church, Mr. JAMES
FINGE, mariner of the Jane Lockhart, New Zealand trade, a
native of Swansea, Wales, to MARGARET McARTHUR, of Lower
George-street, of Scottish parentage, a native of the county
Tipperary, Ireland.

It does have FINGE.

There are no FUIGE or FINGE births at all in FreeBMD.

There are 7 birth reg in NSW for FUIGE 1868 -1883 for James & Margaret.

I wonder how accurate the 'Swansea' bit is.
