Hi, I'm trying to find my Great Granddads brother Robert, I have him living with his mother and step father in Middlesbrough on the 1901 census, he's 26 and a boilermaker. What makes it difficult is that he is down as Greenwell and my GGrandad John took Greenwell too, unofficially.

No one in the family knew Robert existed when I've talked to them, how do you hide a 26 yr old??
So I am trying to find out what happened to him, I don't even know if he kept the surname Greenwell or reverted to Turnbull, anyone have any ideas where to look for him? Post 1901 is a real nightmare for information.

Thanks you Borobabs for your very kind offer, I actually found him in Acklam cemetary last August, unfortunately he has no headstone but I have a photo of the grass.

Thanks again.

hi madpants, take a look on stockton roots.co.uk it has birth, marriage and death records it also hold burial records.i use this site alot as i live in stockton.also you could try the tees valley indexs that holds most info for the stockton, middlesbrough area.:)

there is a robert turnbull listed as marrying an ada gray in 1900.I am unable to find any robert greenwell marriaage.
There is also a robert turnbull death registered in 1903,2 in 1985 and 1 in 1986.
I have found 1 robert greenwell death in 1989.
If ut robert is the one that died in 1903 that could explain why you are having a hard time finding anything on him.Hope this helps.

Thank you for the replies :)

I now have Robert on the 1911 census at home in Middlesbrough and his papers from the army in WW1 he didn't marry and died a pauper in Middlesbrough in 1951. He kept the Greenwell name all through his life.

Thanks again for your help :)
