First of all, he did not have to be conscripted he could have enlisted even if he was in a reserved occupation.

Was your grandmother's name Lilian? if so there is an entry on FreeBMD for a marriage

Robert H Wilkinson/ Lilian Dinsdale Sep 1913 Stockton vol 10a p142

Without a Regiment, your task is not easy. I have found that it is not safe to assume that because a person came from an area, they would automatically have been enlisted into the local regiment, ie I live in Cheshire and whilst many joined either the Cheshire or Staffordshire Regiments, others joined various Guards Regiments and Liverpool, Manchester and London .
Sorry this is not much help but good luck.

What is the source of your belief that he served in WW1 ?
Hi
the information was from my mother, long dead now, plus and i know this sounds silly but as a child i lived with my grandmother and father and i remember an army great coat she used to put on my bed for extra warmth there was also a story told by my mother of an accident where a gun carrage went over his legs however its just a story and not really provable.
