I've just woken up to the fact I'm searching for John's arrival and then listed brother Samuel.

John married in 1863. Don't know if he is in England in 1861 or not.

Hi Dave,
SMH Sat 21 Jan 1922 - Veteran Island Teacher - Death of Mr John Hartley Roberts - (died 19 Jan 1922 NSW - correct parents)

In article says he arrived day after wreck of the Dunbar (which was 20 Aug 1857).
The closest arrival from Liverpool to Melb for a John Roberts = 5 Sept 1857 on "White Star" aged 20. nothing shows arriving NSW around that time.
regards
Val

So the bit about arriving the day after the wreck of the 'Dunbar' means John must have travelled on a coastal steamer from Melbourne to Sydney to have arrived in Sydney on 21 Aug 1857.

I can't find anything for 21st.

The 23rd there is a Roberts, no initial or age, but passenger list has all passengers as 'miners'
