Try and grab book on Early Hawkesbury Settlers by Bobbie Hardy - interesting life bio in it on Robert Hobbs 1763 – 1839
convicted for 7 yrs 1790 & arrived 1791 on ship “Active” & Bridget Heasling/Haslin/Heslin/Eslin 1774 -1843 convicted 1792 7 yrs and arrived 1793 on “Sugarcane” - catholic - notes has – under pressure of events she relented in 1815 with all their children born but one. In the more tolerant 1820’s some at least of her family adhered to a Catholic church whose nuptuials had been unavailable to her.
Another bio on Bridget – she and her family & friends were members of a gang who stole bleached linen from bleached greens in Dublin, there has been well documented data from the Freeman Journal published Dublin to support this theory with articles printed in 1785, 1789, 1791, and 1792.
Known gang members were Patrick Haslin (father) executed, his wife involved but her name not given, their known children were Patrick – transported to NSW per “Boddingtons” 1793, Bridget transported per “Sugar Cane” 1793, John involved in the gang also, Joseph Kearns alias Dungan also on the “Boddington”
Bridget formed an association with Robert Hobbs and their 1st child Robert was born 19 Sept 1796 in Sydney just 3 years after her arrival, This birth was found in a family bible but doesn’t appear in official records, Bridget finished her sentence in 1799 – TOL 6 Feb 1811 – 1806 Muster show Bridget as a concubine with 6 children….
