Royal Army Medical Corps (R.A.M.C)

My Grandfather Charles Walter Smith was in the R.A.M.C (Royal Army Medical Corps) from 1915 to 1917 when he was wounded in France I don't have his regiment or unit details and I cant find any trace of him on Ancestry or genes reunited in the military records, is their anywhere else I can look.

Have you tried looking on TNA's site? (The National Archives).

I can't navigate it for toffee I'm afraid, as it confuses the heck out of me.

Pat,

if that is the web address, ramc-ww1.com just add www to the front of it, it should turn blue which will then when you click on it take you to that site. If it doesnt then you need to goto the site you want to link to here, 'copy' the URL (from address bar at the top) and 'Paste' it into the thread, save and it will be there

once you get the hang of it, it is a very handy thing to know

I had a look and like you said its a mine field. seams that you need to know all the details first, before you can find the person your looking for and trying yo find the correct record is a tast, but ill keep trying.

Thanks for the links, Intresting site lots of info about RAMC, problem seems to be that most of the records were distroyed during the 2nd World War and without a unit number my task seams Unattainable. But Ill keep trying I might get lucky.

Sorry for the delay in replying been away for a few days.
My Grandfather was born on 15 Mar 1878 in Marylebone Middlesex/London and Died on 4 Aug 1947 in Romford, Essex. Im told he served in the RAMC from 1915 to 1918 and also in the ARP Service in WWII in Chadwell Heath, Dagenham. Im also informed that he was awarded a total of 4 medels but dont know what they were for, Two would be from WWI The other two I dont know.

No afraid not. His mother is Amilia Eliza Digby. B abt 1853, Father-Walter Smith. B abt 1855

Can anyone help with information about Canadians in RAMC?

Lieutenant Hugh Robert McNAIR was in RAMC ( Medal roll) and served in France from Dec 9th 1915 to June 7 1916. He served with "22 Gen Hosp"
Is there any way of finding out about this hospital?

He applied for his 1914-1915 Star in December 1918 when working in Quebec for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

In 1922 when he was living near Southampton he applied for the Victory Medal and was awarded it for his service with the "Harvard Unit".

Does anyone have information about this unit?

Our man returned to USA in June 1916 and did go to Boston.

Hi, I'm also looking for some information on the R.A.M.C, I have some medals with the persons name on and rank, but I thought they should also have his service number on, instead it just has the number 8, any idea what that's for, thanks.
