Yep..and i am betting there is a scottish link someware in Pats Story.
Thanks to everyone for your help. There is no Scottish connection as far as I am aware. My grandfather, Albert Edward Goode, signed up at the beginning of 1916 with his best friend (name unknown) but his military service record is not available like so many others. I have a copy of his pension application record which provides some information. At some time he transferred from the RAMC to the Welsh Regiment and was attached to the 84th brigade. We went to Kew last week and the medal book provided the following information.

My family believed that he served in France/Flanders so Selonica is new to me. He very rarely talked about his war service (like so many other servicement) but apparently he took a near hit at some stage and then became aware that he was back behind his own lines but several months had passed by in the interim. I am wondering if this story fits with him leaving the RAMC and suddenly being attached to the Welsh Regiment. My grandmother had a photograph of him working in a field kitchen but we have no idea when it was taken. The only ither knowledge I have is from my mother who spoke of the terrible effect any lightening and thunder storm had on him, he would be found hiding away reliving the war as if it was going on around him still and he was back in the trenches, so very sad.
I know so very little about the military that this is one big learning curve for me so I greatly appreciate your help.
