Hi Dave, hope you can help... my wife has been looking through some family history and as a result following ww2 service numbers names appears to be related to William Thornley (great great grandfather) and we stumble across all your posts this evening. Do you have any information or family tree mapped? W. Thornley & Sons engineer was where her grandfather worked before moving. Any way of getting in touch and finding out your interest in the thornley heritage?

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

The families are not a direct line but a branch of my tree that is larger than usual for a parallel line. I keep pruning my tree to keep it under 5000 but the Runciman/Thornely/Ball bits are still there.

If I don't have the details then members here can try to help.

What specific queries do you have?

Dave

Hi Dave,

My wife is just starting, long story short Anzac Day she was given both her great uncles medals to wear for a dawn service. When she got home she started chasing the history of the medals and was up till about midnight searching further and further and only interested in the thornley side at the moment

So basically where She at so far.

Her father Jeffery thornley
His father and mother were Harold John thornley & flora nichol
Harolds father
Frederick thornley married to Elsie may turner
Fredericks father was William thornley fredericks mother appears to be Betsy ball
We think Williams father is Thomas thornley

They were the Thornley's involved in the w. Thornley and sons engineering
We believe we have found Frederick's brothers and sisters and there appears to be some that only lived for a few years that some of the family members were not all that aware off. There was reference in BDM that Mary Alice one of Fredericks sister married a William George sloman in 1906 and she passed away in 1954.

During war record searches on my wife's great uncles that were in ww2 we also found links to runciman family.

We spent a few hours on all your posts on this topic and searched news paper links that a lot of your information was correct, and there there looks like there is more.

Looking I guess to see what ppl have discover in the thornley section to save a lot of extra work.

Not sure if you are aware however have been told today that Frederick thornley deceased 1946 in Brisbane who was harolds father originally married to Elsie also remarried to mirrie.

There was a lot of other information we found today through old family photos and war history. Is there any way we would be able to have a look at the thornley section of your tree and I guess as well as the ball rumciman and anything on the sloman side that you have.

Also have information
